It is important to check the following points before using your motorbike, whether this is for a race or leisure. A complete checklist is provided in the maintenance manual for your motorbike. The advice from Ipone should not detract from the advice given by the manufacturer of your motorbike. |

1. Check the oil level
Why? Because motocross bikes have small engines (<500cc) which are under a lot of strain (high engine speeds) and which are difficult to lubricate (small crankcase, steep angle of the engine).
How? Refer to the instructions in your instruction manual. Take care not to exceed the maximum level or you risk having too high an oil pressure which could ruin the engine.
Products: see the range of lubricants.
2. Check you have enough petrol.
Why?? So you don’t break down.
3. Check the lights (for endurance motorbikes).
4. Check there are no leaks from the fork or shock absorber.
Why? The oil seals may have aged badly or even be defective. If the fork is leaking, oil will run on to the brake disks and the motorbike will not brake.
How? Pump the handlebar several times to stress the fork and shock absorber.
Products: see fork range.
5. Check the brake system.
Why? The seals on the brake system may become damaged after high-pressure cleaning.
How? Pump the brakes to check the seals. Check if there are any leaks on the disks. If there are leaks, we recommend you contact a professional.
Products: see brake range
6. Check the air filter.
Why? The environment you drive in is often dusty and damp. If the air filter is dirty, dust particles get into the engine and prevent good carburation.
How? Refer to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Products: see air filter range and the cleaning instructions after use for more details on how to clean a filter.
7. Check tyre pressure.
Why? If the tyre pressure is too low, there is a high risk of puncture.
How? Refer to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Products: In the event of puncture, see our range of anti-puncture products for motorbikes and prevention products for quad bikes.
8. Check the chain.
Why? A chain in poor condition or with poor tension will significantly reduce the life of your chain kit.
How? For the tension, refer to the manufacturer’s instructions. The chain must be clean (no particles stuck to the chain, no lumps of grease). The chain must be lubricated.
Products: for sandy terrain, we recommend Sand Chain. We have a very wide range of sprays for all types of use.
9. Check the rack tension.
10. Check the clearance by turning the wheels.
11. Put anti-fog spray on your visor.
Why? As your visor ages, its demisting properties tend to disappear over the course of time.
How? Use Ipon Look.
